Interviews for OCAD and YSDN on the same day?! I would've had a heartattack. :| Thank you for sharing this with me though! It's interesting to see how these interviews can go for others, whether good or bad.

And I'd have to agree about the process work. While I can understand that a lot of students do a lot of work on the computer and simply change things along the way, having the process work actually documented definitely helps to keep your ideas organized and help you improve what you already have. I used to be the same way, but I found that taking the time to sit down with a sketchbook and simply brainstorm and come up with as many variations as you can can help you figure out what it is you want in your design and what it is that you should eliminate.

I've actually just accepted OCAD's offer today, haha. Perhaps I shall see you around campus!

Hi! It's that hard huh :/ I applied to various schools for various programs..my top choices were between OCAD's new program called Digital Futures (gaming design) and YSDN. I agree the essay and questionnaire were great I didn't even ask anyone to edit it for me but it all depended on the interview. My OCAD interview AND YSDN interview were on the SAME DAY! YSDN was in the morning. I am socially awks as well BUT I was in IB and did IB art where the exam IS an interview. I bombed that one personally...but I did gain experience of what to say what may be asked etc..I was going first on the day of my YSDN interview and I thought I screwed up as the interviewer at one point told me to speed it up x) all the stuff about mostly having digital stuff is utter crap you must have a mixture..in fact most of my stuff was traditonal! I remember my interviewer being very nice though BUT having an argument over a poster I made :/ the question bombed me there and I had to BS as much as possible!! :O
In the end (aka two days ago) I found out I made it into the program and I'm choosing OCAD over this one (I was supposed to apply for OCAD's graphic design program but found DF as a fluke :P) as my dad's in adverstising and believes YSDN's "old world" and that I should focus more on technology along with art (which I gotta admit I had to concur as I took an IB course on technology and its where the job demand is truly from this point onwards)
ANYway (wow sry for the long post) the BIGGEST thing which screws the majority of people trying out for schools over and what I luckily learned in IB art is PROCESS!!! Can't stress how important it is! They both take that under major consideration process=sketchbook btw! OCAD stresses it the most but YSDN wants it too. IB taught me to document all the inspiration processes and reflections for all the pieces I had to produce. Intense, yeah. But everyone in my class who applied to art schools and/or architecture has pretty made it to their programs, a big factor was their sketchbooks filled woth processes and reflections of pieces.
Anywho good luck with YSDN!! Who knows, I may see you there if I don't like OCAD ;O hopefully I will though heh ;P
